Lee Broms
Founder | Master Craftsman | Visionary Entrepreneur
The story of Broms begins with one man whose dedication to craftsmanship and commitment to excellence laid the foundation for a family legacy that continues today.
Originally from Minneapolis, Lee Broms built an exceptional reputation within the fur industry through his remarkable skill as a fur matcher, a highly specialized craft requiring the ability to perfectly match natural fur skins by texture, tone, and color. His talent earned him recognition as one of the youngest fur matchers in the country.
In 1948, Lee was recruited to Peoria to oversee the fur department at Bergner's. Recognizing an opportunity to create something truly his own, he opened Lee Broms Furs in October 1949 404 Fulton Street in downtown Peoria. Establishing a small 400 square foot storefront that would eventually become one of Central Illinois' most respected luxury fashion destinations.
Built upon the principles of craftsmanship, integrity, personalized service, and lasting relationships, Lee's vision transformed Broms into far more than a retail store. It became a trusted destination where generations of women discovered timeless elegance and exceptional quality.
Today, the values Lee instilled continue to guide every aspect of the business, ensuring that his commitment to excellence remains at the heart of the Broms experience.

A Family Legacy Continues
For Jeff Broms, the family business was never just a place of work. It was part of everyday life.
Born in 1956, Jeff spent much of his childhood in the store and workshop alongside his father. Growing up surrounded by the sights, sounds, and activity of the store, Jeff developed an appreciation for the business from an early age. By the age of four, he was already helping his father with small tasks and spending time in the workshop, where he witnessed firsthand the dedication and skill behind every garment.
As he grew older, afternoons after school were often spent at the store learning the many facets of the business. From assembling gift boxes and assisting customers to observing the detailed processes that took place behind the scenes, each experience helped shape his understanding of the industry and the values that defined Broms.
Without realizing it at the time, Jeff was preparing for a future that would connect him to a legacy spanning generations.
Like many young people, Jeff initially envisioned a different path for his future. He attended Bradley University with aspirations of becoming an oceanographer, eager to explore opportunities beyond the family business.
Life, however, had other plans.
When Lee Broms faced serious health challenges, Jeff made the decision to return and help support the business his father had spent decades building. At just twenty years old, he stepped into a leadership role during a pivotal moment in the company's history.
Guided by the lessons he had learned throughout his childhood and inspired by his father's example, Jeff embraced the responsibility of preserving Broms for future generations. Under his leadership, the business continued to evolve while remaining rooted in the principles that had defined it from the beginning.
Today, Jeff's commitment ensures that the legacy started in 1949 continues to thrive, connecting the past, present, and future of Broms Furs & Fashions.

Today, Broms Furs & Fashions remains proudly second generation family owned and operated in Peoria Heights.
While fashion has evolved over the years, the company's commitment to personalized service and exceptional quality remains unchanged.
